My name is Clare and I’m mum to Megan and Charlie and wife to Steve, based in Farnborough, Hampshire, UK.
I have always been a bit creative, specialising in Art and Design at school and eventually studying a Fine Art degree at Surrey Institute of Art And Design (now the University of the Creative Arts). After finishing my degree I went off on a tangent a bit with a career in retail management and also qualified as a plumber.
All was going well and just about to start my gas course when I found out in 2009 that I was pregnant for the 2nd time with my son Charlie.
After a lot of discussion I decided to give up work and become a full time mum. After a while of being at home on my own with a small child the inevitable cabin fever set in and I needed an outlet.
I was a member of an online baby forum and one day discovered the Crafty Bums group and soon became addicted. I hadn’t sewn much since I was at school, however, I started making Charlie some things, a few comforters and bibs, showed them off then got a few orders from other members.
My husband bought me a lovely new sewing machine and growing in confidence, I decided to take the plunge and set up Funky Elephant in January 2011 and I haven’t looked back. I enjoy what I do and love the fact I can work it around my children. My head is bursting with new things I want to try, now if only I can find out how to add more hours to the day…
